Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs of being 3,473 Miles from Upton Park and West Ham United (Aug 2011 - May 2016)
Concentrate on the league I suppose. Still need to address the lack of firepower up front. Time to splash the cash otherwise it'll end up with Alf Tupper's head on the block! What a waste!
No supposing Filthy, it's got to be promotion at all costs. For me the worst result would have been a draw, we don't need the few first team players we have to field wasting their time on replays. If the young guns (plus the old codger) could have made a go of it, that would have been lovely, but they didn't - a lost opportunity for them and it's back to business for the rest of us.
Yup, there are always Reasons to be Cheerful, and if your team can't do it for you, you just have to Do It Yourself. All being well the hammers will start next season, up there in England's Glory, the premier league.
Ian Dury did in fact name Upton Park as one of the "jewels in the crown of England's Glory" rhyming it with Petula Clark ! But in fairness to all the the second line of the chorus is "Too numerous to mention but a few". It was written for the ever struggling Kilburns and first recorded by the mighty Max Wall, but The Blockheads used to do a top shelf version live !
I still have the Max Wall single and a live version of dury's. "Peculiar" Clark if I remember rightly!
There's no proof that Ian was a Hammers' man, but when you also consider his Upminster background (from "Upminster Kid' to "Lord Upminster") and his beloved Billericay Dickie and Plasitow Patricia, it's hard to imagine that he could have been anything else ! Maybe he was an atheist ?
...ticket man at Fulham broadway station...but I don't think he was that way inclined.
If I remember correctly "Fulham Broadway Station" is immediately followed by the words "What A Waste". The only high profile Fulham supporters I can think of are Budgie (Ronald Bird) and Terry McCann from Minder !
Your memory doesn't lie! Is Hugh Grant high profile anymore? was he ever? They seem to claim Michael Jackson, but let's not open that one!
Just the concept of "claiming Michael Jackson" says it all, no wonder Bobby Zamora wants a change of venue !
Zamora is one of the mot under rated players in the league. I wonder why more clubs especially the ones in relegation zone aren't fighting to sign him.
If he's really fallen out with Jol, I reckon Hughes will snap him up for QPR. But in case Bobby Z's reading this - the door's ajar, the fires warm and the kettle's on !
I think Bobby Z should come back home to the East, did a none too shabby job for us before, could do it again.
