Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs of being 3,473 Miles from Upton Park and West Ham United (Aug 2011 - May 2016)
I know I still owe Winston his Hammer OF The Year Post and it will happen, I'm just having difficulty finding the particular combo of images I want. It will go up Crazy Horse ! In the meantime this will be it until next season kicks off, or events move me to make another Saitch. I wish you warm weather, good times and some new Hammers of merit. We shall see...
" Buy me , sell me, I'm in the Dalton's weekly, I'm not me now anymore, 'bye, 'bye, 'bye...buy me..." (answers on a post card please)You don't get much for 4d these days! Impressed with the big money attempts for Carroll and someone I've forgotten (italian? striker?), but maybe I'm just feeling cynical, 'cos I also feel the Gollivan might have just flashed the top two notes on the bundle( the rest being fakes) in the knowledge the offer probably wouldn't be accepted anyway. "we tried, we tried, but...."Whatever/whoever there needs to be strong additions to the squad, even if there ain't any money around.
Filthy as for as the bundle goes, you might be right it not being as big as some would have us believe, but I do think with The Olympic in sight, there will be some cash to flash. Obviously AC would make a severe dent in our wad and our wages bill, but if he's too greedy or just wants to wait it out,we will have to move on, they're are other strikers. "West Ham Till I Die" made a pitch for Darren Bent, but I'm not sold, nort exactly known for "pitching in" is he ?
I wish he'd stop buggering about whatever he's gonna do, If he keeps this up and doesn't do the biz straight out the gate the faithful will be on his back. Just what we need an unpopular bill of 100k a week. The scousers won't play him much even if they keep him, and doesn't look like he's going back up the Tyne.Be a big hole if he doesn't and will be some interesting scrambling up front - more fun on the Ironocoaster.
I wouldn't go near Darren Bent...
Well I hear AC is back from his "holiday" Smitty, so maybe we'll hear some rumblings.
And when he plays against us Filthy, neither do we ! But I agree, I can't see him as a Hammer !
Yeah, it seems we've gone from 50/50 to 75/25 he'll be a Hammer. What does that mean? b*****r all. Just sign or be on your way.Nah, not keen on Bent either.
"Keen" is not a word I associate with Darren Bent Smitty !
Point taken,Edit.Nah, not lazy sod with attitude on Bent either.
I see Chel$ki have just splashed out 18M on a German trigger man, I wonder therefore if Demba Ba, might be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge ? I for one would have no problem with him coming back to us, although I heard that the dressing room was "divided" during his stay (another thing to thank Matthew Upson for) , so he may not have fond memories of Green Street.
oi oi saveloy...Green shield stamps...lovely touch on the pic A.P. The Big 'Ol Geordie' still holding out for a move back to st James's..has someone from the Barcodes had a quiet word in 'Wor Andy's 'earole telling him to be patient about signing any contracts giving him a glimmer of hope that he will be going home...Newcastle will have to pay around £11 million to liverpool & i still say thats where he's going 'Wye Aye Mun' Demba Ba on loan to us for the season...i dont like the mercenary how he fobbed us off the other season after we gave him the chance back in the prem...but as a striker cannot fault him and would love him back..(he's a dead ringer for the the...Bubba Gump shrimp geezer) Regarding Winston Reid...deserved Hammer of the year...we only have one song for him over the Boleyn ..."Who put the ball in the pikeys net Winston Winston Reid"P.s. Sadly Tubby Isaacs fish stall Goulston St Aldgate has Floundered and is no more, although i coulnt stand Jellied Eels i loved a plate of cockles and winkles smothered in vinegar and pepper and soaked up with the dry crusty bread from the legend that was Tubby Isaacs...gone but never to be forgotten....
Referred to by me as King Tubby Isaacs, sad news indeed slippery. It was celebrated here in The Championship Season with an old Daily Mirror smudge of Ian Dury braving up to swallow a whelk, I will have to track back for the vitals - cue "Devils Gallop"...
I can't find it slippery, I think I might have been turned over ? I shall have to consult with my dealer in Hoxton. Hope I haven't lost the plot - we shall see ???
I found it slippery - it was a loss to Sheffield Wednesday away in the Cup, posted January 9th 2012. You can trawl back and have a butchers if you like. As for Demba departure, can't expect much in the way of loyalty from overseas players who may not even have noticed us before we showed interest. I put that down to business as usual, so I have no issue with his possible return. Would it be Bubba Ba or Demba Gump ?
oi oi A.P.....Ive got that pic on me computer of Ian Dury at Tubby's stall...yonks ago i worked down petticoat lane ..every day except saturday the market was on...i used to work in a shop on the same street as Tubby's.... Goulston st....shop was called... The Last Resort...i dont know if you've heard of it A.P....infamous gaff was the Resort..anyway was at the stall every other day ...always got terrific heart burn after though....King Tubby Isaacs...image in me head of Tubby standing at the stall...red green & gold tea cosy on hes head...long dreads..puffing away on a big fat' jolly D'. & a serious case of Red Eye & a .couple of big ol bass speakers at the front belting out Original Rockers by Augustus Pablo while serving up bowls of Jellied Eels.....Boomshakalaka
I heard from my Dad that Tubby Issacs is closing in Aldgate. Damn shame. You get some funny looks when you mention Jellied Eels here in LA....funny lot these Americans. COYI.
Infamous indeed was The Last Resort slippery, I done some time on the stalls on Middlesex Street way back in the day and got my first pair of creepers around the corner (Wentworth St ?) around 1972/3 - showing my age. It's a shame the mighty Ray Lowry isn't still around to give us a rendition of King Tubby Isaacs, or perhaps he did ?
Can't recall my first Whelk ( or my last one-might have been the same one!) but a dash of the sauce that is Augustus Pablo and King Tubby went down easier. As for the " my first pair of creepers" contest, I'm lagging behind witha pair of Blue, D ring Denson's, mail order in 1976 (i think). As for Demba Gump, he's a bit part player now, but a very useful one. I'd take him (on loan for a year)
Never finished my one and only whelk (now there's a title) Filthy, probably still in short trousers. outside some boozer with my Uncle John accusing me of being from a different blood line. Am I to assume Bubba Ba's bit part at Chel$ki is down to his dodgy knee or is it just abundance of top shelf fire power ?
Every Saturday night my Grandad used to get me and my cousin to go to the stall outside the Merry Fiddlers in Dagenham to get him a half pint of Winkles and the Evening Standard for the results for his pools. Never had the urge to try one or a whelk for that matter.
Ba at Chelsea? knee means he plays one rests one, scored some nice goals but, seemed to have lost his shooting boots. Still a class act..
Welcome aboard Martin. My old man (RIP) was very keen on the winkles, he used to pick 'em out with a safety pin. I was strictly a cockles kid (pepper and vinegar a must) unless somebody in the family was extra flush and then it was shrimps all round !
I never used to watch my Grandad eat the horrible creatures, he used take the paper and food out the back of the kitchen and demand not be be disturbed. Dead right about cockles. If it was someone's birthday it was down to Osborne's at Leigh-on-Sea for cockles, vinegar and soft white rolls. Never got shrimps until my cousin started selling knocked off TV's. Oh happy days....
Whelks / Winkles ptuii Yeuk. Got one down, but that was itCockles is the way, vinegar only.Yeah, borrowing the Ba may be a bonus up front, can't hurt if we've got the gelt.
Leigh-on-Sea cockle sheds Martin, top shelf indeed. Not only did they produce 5 Star cockles but Leigh-on - Sea also provided us with the one and only Vivian Stanshall. The bloke that runs my local copy shop on the Upper West (Ham) Side of Manhattan hails from there too, he's a former Kursaal worker too and won't go near any kind of shellfish, he's still trying to shake the smell of old cockles from his nostrils !
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22959336Bout bloody time, we should get a few bob off for hanging about.Fell on his heel!!I'd have felt a lot better if it didn't look like he was shopping around and we were last dibs, but if he does the job shouldn't complain.
Looks like a done deal now he's passed his medical Smitty, so Alf Tupper should be happy, be nice to get Bubba Ba on loan to keep him company and we should have at least one functioning pair of knees between the two of them ! I'm sure the shop staff and mail order boys will be happy to have AC pimping the new kit too.
So it would seem, but my previous ardor has cooleda bit with the wait. It's typical of today's footie. He's got almost as much money as you can spend, will have the front pretty much to himself to shine in, a decent squad to feed him, fans that really are fans, and he's buggering about hoping for a few extra quid. He better put up after all this, and not just flog a few shirts, although can't hurt. If he gets hurt getting off the bus in the first month I'm gonna fly over and nut him right in the knee. Would be nice to get a BA up front too. That may actually have had an effect on all this, different player entirely but a bloody sight cheaper.
Well as you know Smitty, AC wont start the season, but when he does hopefully he'll start banging them in and all your hanging about will be like spilled liquor down the pie and mash !
That would be the plan.
Just seen first match of next season details - Saturday 17th August at home to Cardiff ! We could kick it off with a 3 pointer and what's more, me and my two lads will be able to go. First Saitch of next season to be made in London. C'MON YOU IRONS !
I'll be over there in early March but the home game with Hull is on my son's wedding day......I've been a crap Dad, so he can't think any less of me if I skip out....or perhaps I can stay an extra couple of days and go to Stoke....decisions, decisions...
Weddings trump Hammers Martin, you have to think of the bigger picture - we've got to keep breeding new fans. On top of which Stoke could well be an Away 3 Pointer - that's got to be a bit of a giggle and I haven't even mentioned the charm and sheer magnetism of Stoke On Trent itself ! My advice - go to the wedding , don't get in a punch up and stick around for Stoke. Look I'm turning into Marjorire Proops !
God I must be old I know who Marjorie Proops was...I hear you Marje...I went to Stoke once, lots of chimneys and northerners....I'll see if I can swing the extra days. Mind you the wedding is in Leeds....does Google have a translator for Yorkshire to English.
Never thought of you and Marjorie at the same time before Mr P. Still, now you mention it....... Stoke will be like the Riviera after Leeds!
"Soiled for choice" meant to say "Spoiled for choice" but I kind of like the Spoonerism.
Stoke, Leeds....its like that KLF number "It's Grim Up North"...I'd already bailed to the US when his Mum moved them up to Sheffield from E15. She says she has no friends 'cos she doesn't understand what they say - she been there nearly 20 years....At least I've figured out what Americans say, mostly. Although they tell me I mumble and swear too much.
I don't know who said it first Martin, but they hit the nail on the head: "England and America - 2 nations divided by a common language" ! Full disclosure- Mrs. Pepper and my two lads are Americans, so I'm quite partial !
Leeds to Stoke Martin, you'll be soiled for choice should you decide to "stop over" en route . You might even be able to make the whole journey by canal - plenty of canals "Up North", which depending oy our disposition can start once you leave Watford Gap !
I'm on thin ice indeed Filthy, I'd better watch it or I'll be wearing big specs and carrying a fag holder next !
Global warming; it's melting Mr P....("P" for?)
And on top of that, a load of hot air from me Filthy !
Montero from Ecuador?
What's that in exchange for Julian Assange or Edward Snowden ? Surely not both Filthy ?
A whistleblowers XI ? (not including refs!)
Said trading should not forget the big deal Premier League this year. Fulham change master http://www.footballtshirtuk.com/Fulham-Shirt.html . This is a change.
