Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs of being 3,473 Miles from Upton Park and West Ham United (Aug 2011 - May 2016)
Heartrate & BP back to normal? Grin down to smug smirk? You got your wish Mr P against the odds ( mine included) - 20/1 I believe they were!!Been a while sinceit felt that good eh!!
Woke the neighbours up twice (7:45 AM kickoff in NYC) Smitty. We beat Spuds three times and stayed up. The aggregate score for the 3 matches is 7- 1 .I'm never going to forget that and neither will any Spuds fans I know - I won't let 'em! I'm still groovin' - Deep Joy !
O Happy day! And some nice football towards the end! All very feelgood and the long suffering fans deserve it. Will BFS get his just deserts?
Yeah , big smiles time for a change.BFS - Oh I hope so!! Doesn't change anything. Please please please get on the bus, start it up and sod off.
You'd been wanting that one AP, so hope you enjoy it..Any Spuds over there in Manhattan you can pay a little visit to?
Straight after the match I did a quick once round the hood promenade in my '64 Cup Final shirt (no jacket) with a lingering stop in Zabars Delicatessan - Danny Zabar's a spud, I didn't spot him but I put myself about. Kept the shirt on until kip time !
I can't really see Sullivan and Gold changing their minds either way over one result. But if Alf is going they may have decided to give Sherwood a miss. It won't be long before we know and in the meantime I'm going to keep focused on the complete and utter totall annihilation beyond question of Tottenham Hotspur ! COME ON YOU IRONS
I'm happy for you guys that they won this big one towards the end of the season. I think there's 2 games left? It gives you hope for next year!
Just one game left Clueless, away to Manchester City who may need to beat us to win the title ! If that doesn't sound intimidating enough, they've already beaten us three times this season 3-1, 6-0 and 3-0 ! About time we changed our tune, kicked some ass and rain on their parade ! As you can see beating Tottenham three times in one season has left me with little grasp on reality !
luverly Saitch A.P.. Top Hat...more like 'Top That'...not quite 'Fred & Ginger' with the customary end of season Conga provided by the Chicken Run but 'Du Du Du Du Du Du...Du'd' joyously knowing that the Spuds were not only mashed ,but boiled, roasted & fried by our mob this season.. Man City away last game of the season with them needing to beat us to win the title...i honestly think they're a bit worried knowing we 've nothing to play for league wise...but pride wise, everything to play for after being steam rollered by them in the league cup semi's...and i reckon our lot will give the blue half of Mancland a right old rocket up there jacksy come the final whistle... C.O.Y.F.I
"Mashed, Boiled, Roasted and Fried" I love it Slippery ! Should be a headline in the Standard !
That's called being a spoiler in baseball. Once you're team is out of the running, they play to take their arch rivals out of it also. The 2nd greatest feeling as a fan! The SF Giants did that to the Dodgers a few times over the years. Your team has nothing to lose, they play loose & the other guys can choke big time! This seems like the perfect setup for that scenario. Then I hope I see that freakin' Manchester guy at the bank again to rub it in. I'm 62 and this guy was young weight-lifting, steroid-taking Neanderthal muscle-bound type, so I could get knocked out. Is there still any of that hooligan shit happening? Good luck & Go Irons!!
You've brought new meaning to the phrase "Spoiler Alert" on Saitch, Clueless, cheers ! As a major event the violence surrounding English football has dropped way off, although I believe it's not been 100% eliminated. From what I've heard it more of a pre-arranged private affair between willing parties. Having said that some West Ham fans were fighting amongst themselves at the West Brom match !
what does a '64 Cup Final shirt look like?!!!sounds amazing!!
Welcome to Saitch silverlake, would you be from New York, L.A., Louisiana or some other spot on the map ? Not sure how to post an image in the comments section (might not even be possible) so here's the link to the '64 Cup Final shirt (also known round my gaff as "The Geoff Hurst") from The Hammers shop on Green Street:http://www.officialwesthamstore.com/1964-FA-CUP-LSLEEVE-SHIRT-HKCH
a ha but of course! in my head i was thinking '64 't-shirt' and wondering when the team actually started selling just plain old souvenir tshirt swag.. haven't seen anything nice and old around anywhere.a zabars ham n cheese croissant would be the perfect snack to watch the irons in California.. its not exactly pub hours for the west ham out here.thank you for the warm welcome.. been popping in for ages but figured it was time to say hello!! big fan o' yours mate!!!!
Cali Silverlake ! So regular 3 O'clock kick off is 7AM and the mashing of the Spuds took place around 5AM, no ? Back in the day - there were Cup Final no t-shirts. Me and my cousin got kids "Bubbles" t-shirts from Bobby Moore's sports shop on Green St. They were light blue with claret print - wish I still had it, would look great in a frame. Punters never wore team shirts to matches either - well perhaps on Cup Final Day (AKA Silly Season).
I'm trying to remember when that (team shirt wearing) came in. I know it wasn't 70's...late 80's?Pretty sure it was common by mid 90's.
I wouldn't know exactly Filthy, but after I had re-located to New York, so after the mid-80's. I also wonder what brought it on? My Geoff Hurst came about after seeing an England 66 shirt in a duty free shop in Heathrow - got me wondering and lo and behold it existed. I must say The Hammers shop at the ground has a nice selection of old team shirts, but whether or not they have them in a size someone wants is another story altogether - "Can I interest you in a XXXL Sir ?"....
I just found out the West Ham game is live on regular NBC tomorrow at 10:00AM EST. I'll be watching.
Just remember Clueless, we're playing what The Grand Poobah of the Abu Dhabi Investment World considers to be the best money can buy - not a weak link in 'em ! But Spoiler Alert: - "ours is not to question why, ours is but to do or die !" COME ON YOU IRONS !!!
There's always next year, as they say in baseball. At least they only got beat 2-0 this time. Screw the sheik of araby. Maybe there is a UK version of the guy who figured out how to get players on the cheap with statistics for the Oakland A's. They made a movie about him and Jonah Hill was nominated for an academy award. So anything's possible.
No need to respond to this now. I'll cut & paste it into the final Saitch of the season.
well...my theory is that BFS will tell the troops to "attack..attack,attack" That way he can say that when they're fit and not under pressure they can play good football, and thus convince the powers he's worth another year. Nobody in Claret and blue has anything to lose, it'll be a good game
I'm expecting a more Mouruinho type approach, give them no room and hit them on the break - which when you come to think about it not unlike Tupperism ( is Jose just Alf with more money ?). If there's a day for AC to shine it's Sunday and if the devil still looks after his own, Nobby will score. As you say Filthy nothing to lose we dont want to lose anyway !
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2624725/Sam-Allardyce-says-ambition-West-Ham-prepares-sack.htmlExpect the un-expected with W.H.U...English football is expecting us to roll over and play dead against Man .City ...but i honestly think something un-expected to happen and ...watch this space...Mystic Megadoodah feels something stirring other than milky tea 2 sugars... Sad news about Phil Parkes ...Make a speedy recovery Big Phil ...W.H.U. Legend
Ambition my a***. He can have all he wants but he's got limited talent.1 plan no back up, gets the worst out of talented players, sticks by the old worn out gunsregardless. Couldn't win a 5 & 10 striped beaker in Europe.AC for England!? Admittedly not a lot worse than we've got and if they were playing teams of midgets he's the boy, but mostly they're not. That said if he lets them play halfhoofball we could put up a decent show. I think we'll still get beat but we'll go down with class. Can't see AC getting one though, unless it's an on the dot cross and someone misses his mark. They've got his # or if they haven't they don't deserve anything.COYI!!!!!
Oscar Garcia, Brighton manager/coach?????
Don't know anything about Oscar G Filthy, but Fatboy Slim reckoned if Brighton won the playoffs and went up - they'd be straight back down. Am holding off on the Citeh Saitch until after The Board and Mr Allardyce have had their Post Season Pow Wow on Tuesday !
I reckon "fatboy slim" and "BFS" only have the "FAT" in common (or not in the "slim's case), this could be where BFS needs some credit, in that WHU already have more than enough of the Allardyce steel and strength, so a new, more attractive, expansive, entertaining brand of OUR game, will be married with that iron(s) curtain style of this season, Whereas Brighton are just too "south coast". (slims about right for Brightons chances)
I guess Filthy, Sam's moniker would be Fatboy Fat ! What about Laudrup formerly of Swansea - he likes to see the ball played on the ground, no ?
Yes but...M. Laudrup's history is starting at the top, then falling down. All the energy is at the beginning then if it ain't Barcelona circa 2009 he'll walk away. Roberto Martinez would be #1, but that wont happen. Otherwise I'd take mr Pocchetino at Southampton, but again that won't happen. Gus Poyet? already taken....Gianfranco Zola? Unfortunately not, but maybe Roberto Di Matteo. No, I'll go with what I heard: Oscar Garcia.
