Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs of being 3,473 Miles from Upton Park and West Ham United (Aug 2011 - May 2016)
Taken from the end of the Hull City thread (after the Liverpool game of course) is George Green's latest despatch from the front lines of Green Street. Would he take offence at the tag George Green Street ? Anyway below:George GreenSeptember 21, 2014 at 9:12 AMWhat a game UP was jumping, best atmosphere I've seen in years. You could almost feel it. The noise was incredible. Bang on Mr Smithy, they did not like it up 'em!Real passion, a blood and guts performance. Like the sort of games we had in the 70s and 80s. Or perhaps like the Coliseum, Christians being thrown to the lions and then kicking their arses. Can't fault any of the players, think Adrian was lucky not to get sent off, Jenkinson look a bit unsure of himself, but then he is only just getting fit and used to the team. Song, Sakho, Cresswell, Amalfitano all looked really good signings and Downing is playing like an England International again. Hats off to Sam, he got his tactics spot on, sorry guys I think he is in for the season. In fact if we beat the Mancs next week we might even hear choruses of "Big Fat Sams claret and blue army.
Well I wuz wrong:Dbut on the second assessment almost right:DD.Lotsa good stuff, almost let it go, kept the blood pressure up, then the final nail.Aaaaaaaaaaah. Scousers, done like a kipper!!2 comments Wile E is a mench!! and a stupid mench!!. Could we have held on without him? I think so, we could have tossed Amalfi or Zarate in now we have some depth, and possibly not been without him for 6 weeks or more. That's where the FatOne should have done his job, pull him for his own good.George, whilst I don't doubt your loyalty to the cause of Hammerdom, I for one would never sing BFSC&BA. I'd rather support Accrington if that's what it takes. He's here for the year and even his incompetent smugness and incomparable footie f**ckupability are unlikely to get this team dropped. So do your year, take your money and sod of back to Bolton and raise pedigree meat pies. I'll buy em, I don't care!!
Well he did get it right this time the right mix of steel and skill and speed. Also playing Downing as the front end of a midfield diamond seems like a cunning plan (is Teddy boy still employed?), but that's as far as I'll go towards praise for him. The Team's got the fans behind them and want to play and all's well with the world. What a difference to last year (so far!)
Filthy, there's no way you're going to get any kind words for Alfie T from Mr Smitty - not on the subject of football anyway (they might agree on pies ?). Pushing our luck straight out of the traps was the way to go, but even so I doubt Sakho's (ours or theirs) Grannie would not have put us two nil up in less than ten minutes ! It was well mental round mine I can tell you !
Smitty I was hoping Wile E would stay on and he did, so I'm not going to complain now. It's First Division Football and pretty much every one loses someone important sooner or later. Sadly it can't just be the Nobby's and AC's it happens too.
I'll be fair, the jury's still out on the pies.I'd be surprised if the FatOne didn't think a midfield diamond was a cunning ploy used by flash buggers that play bridge.I'd like to see Wile E on the field all the time. In my new spirit of fairness to the Fat F**k I will say it's unlikely we'll know if it did more damage or not keeping him on. It's not like there isn't a ton of better stuff to slag him on. Fortunately we have options nowadays, so I'm not totally disheartened. Anyone care to guess who's up for Manure?Amalfi, Zarate, maybe Poyet or even Ravel? I think probably Amalfi, with The Z on the bench.Speaking of Ravel, anyone think with all the options we have he'll be out on loan soon to make a few $ while he decides if he wants to be a grown up yet? Also on the subject of future events, anyone care to predict / bet that the minute AC is fit, no matter how we're doing at the time he'll be in and trying to play to suit him. I wouldn't take bets that it won't happen. Hopefully there is scullduggery afoot to flog him asap.
Just read this. So there you go.I think it would be a good movehttp://www.kumb.com/story.php?id=127822
"Ravel To Cardiff" on a season long loan Smitty ? Saw something about this on BBC Football site too. Aren't they without a manager at the moment and also isn't Ravel due to go back to Salford Magistrates soon ? Seems both sides would do better to wait a bit, although I do have the solution - Nobby Nolan to Cardiff on a permanent !
It's not like he listens to managers anyway so I don't see that as a problem, nor do I think they'll bang him up ( whether he deserves it or not is another matter). They'll fine him till it hurts and a gazillion hours community service ( not sure if playing at Cardiff counts as that) and other inconveniences. Besides, it's hard to swagger around like God's gift in exile in the sticks. Nobby, I'm for it, but the taffies would never go for that however desperate they may be.
Just had a poke about online and it seems that Ravel doesn't go on trial until late January, so there's time for some football and being as our cup currently runneth over with midfielders he might do well to get some games in elsewhere. By the way Big Up to Amalfitado (?) for our 3rd against The Scousers - plenty of Hammers (past and present) would have messed that up !
On the button Mr P....he's gone..to Cardiff!!? I guess anywhere but Manchester.
He's not gone yet Filthy and being as they just got turned over 3-0 by Bournemouth in the League Cup he may not want to. Surely he'd wait and see who the manager is, even if as Smitty says he pays them no mind ? What if it's Tony Pullis ?
Well I called it on Ravel, now about this Carroll geezer.
Better change that to Mr I.T.K.Smitty ! If it was down to me I'd flog A.C. in the January sales !
You and me both, but I seriously doubt it.We'll see what happens when he gets fit and TFO plays him, and we lose.
No offence AP, if I can work out how to do it I'll make the change. I think Ravel is one of those who will never fully make the most of his talent. Just not got it right in the head. BFS has had long enough to sort him out so it will never happen at the Hammers.
Must confess George my feelings were stronger about Ravel before A) He went back up to Manchester on a Saturday night no less and B) we stocked up on midfield options to Nobby. I don't think Allardyce was ever going to "sort him out" and anyway what on earth would he know about developing a creative midfield player ? I still hope it happens for Ravel, because he's got the raw talent - but without the mental game he's just a Sunday Morning Player . We shall see.
I'm inclined to agree, it's easy to bash Sam but given what you see it's usually right. He's locked in trying to fit square pegs into his system, and Ravel was never going to do that. So 2 petulant children going at it. Who knows if he'll ever reach his potential.
Anyone care to predict ManUre?If we don't go all defensive and coy, it'll be tight 3-2 either way. Hopefullly us!!If we do, 15-O to them.
They're dodgy at the back and strong going forward thus their 5-3 loss to Showaddywaddy. I too fancy both sides to score, so for me it's down to the stronger defence - we are definitely in with a shout. Come On You Irons.
And I quote"Sam Allardyce believes West Ham may have to curb their attacking intent in order to get anything out of this weekend's trip to Old Trafford."So 15-0 then. Pillock.
Well we don't want "anything" we want 3 points - "To The Sword - No Quarter !"
I want to seeJussi ( Old safer less volatile(IMO) hands but nobody's seen him for a while, he'll be crackered by half time so Adrian on for some nerve wracking)Reid - Collins ( then Henderson when he gets sent off)Song Nobes Poyet Zarate Valencia Cole Downing SarkhoHOOFBALL!!Not as silly as it looks, even I wouldn't expect that. I think we could out shoot em and if we stop buggering about and just keep Sammin it upfield we could easily overwhelm a wobbly defence and probably break the combined goals per game record.Never going to happen thoughCOYI!!
Could be the best time, dodgy defence, or the worst time, backlash from last week, to play them. A lot depends on how we approach it, will we do another Southampton and just not turn up, or go for it. Whatever think we need to keep it tight and take our chances. They are too good attacking wise to be too cavalier. If they get a couple up could be curtains for us. But who would have believed what they did to Liverpool in 7 mins. Could be an interesting afternoon. COYI!!
As you say George anything could happen, but we do have a genuine at it and with this line up I expect us to have more than one shot. COME ON YOU IRONS !!!!
Oh well not a bad showing by all accounts. Can't believe BFS brought Nolan on! Carroll will be back next week.
