Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs of being 3,473 Miles from Upton Park and West Ham United (Aug 2011 - May 2016)
Well it's been a busy few days in the world of football, not only on Green Street, but also at the Baur Au Lac in Zurich. On the Mafifa front, my prediction is that Blatter will win the vote today, and if they have joined in I think EUFA and the FA were wrong to do so. I don't think Ali V is a bad cat, but I reckon Cess Blatter's got enough in his pocket to win a mere election.Still being a big cheese in Switzerland (OUCH !) may not be enough to keep in power now The Feds want to know where all this loot comes from. My prediction Cess will be toppled soonish but will slip the punch of prosecution.
Well there's not much to talk about the actual match. Standard fare from a late period Tupper team. More like a sit down than a stand. Barely could be bothered to watch the last half hour I was waiting to see what would happen at the death. Pretty much what we all hoped, just a bit quicker. So, did he jump or was he pushed, we won't know the story for a while, if ever. So he has been taking the piss for a while just like I/we figured. If everyone but us knew he was gone I'm sorta surprised there isn't a new man in place right now, but not really. Hopefully we'll come out winning next season.Anyway I'm hopeful whoever the man is he will at least have us going down swinging, if we have to go down. I think with a fit squad even as it stands we can put up a better show than the last few months of dross. Interesting that it took US to derail the Gravy Train. It's possible Septic Bladder will survive but hopefully when a few people start staring at porridge rather than Pate of Fat Goose, someone will cough up where the bodies, read gobbs of filthy lucre, are buried. We can but hope. I think the election may well be adjusted at some point whatever the resultAnyway as you said Mr P, action packed. Hopefully onwards and upwards for us, with some interesting pre season games in obscure parts of Europe's backwaters, and a cleaner FIFA in a year or two.
Alf said a new contract was never discussed, so I take that to mean he knew "the jig was up". I know he pulled the "Wouldn't have stayed if they asked me" routine, well they didn't so no point in fretting over that one. Who's next ? I have no idea and will have no complaints, or bite my tongue until December, when hopefully I will be singing his praises.Mafifa - I'm looking forward to the rats turning on each other and it's a big story, so there will be plenty of people following the moolah. I think the U.S. leading the way, is an indicator of Blighty's lack of international muscle in the 21st Century. They've moaning, investigating and making charges for donkey's years - but where's the weight ? Loretta Lynch, The Feds, New York Times and co and ACTION !!!
I'll be happy from the get go whoever it is and hopefully right through the season.I don't necessarily expect them to win, but I do expect them to try and there to be a sort of plan that is both variable and adjustable.Aside from some of the fluff & fold being done in the US I've no idea why we've gone in like gangbusters but Gawd Bless 'em. I'm sure a few will be thrown to the lions but lets hope she goes for the top. She's probably a baseball fan, so no qualms there.
Yup from what I read it is make or break for la Lynch. Yup septic Bladder (nice one Smitty) is back in, but something's gotta stick soon. It's probably going to be messy, but bring it on!Tupper's last stand? scalp or be scalped! Can you imagine his cavalry troop going into battle as certain as his team that they were going to lose? Gone ! He's history!
I assume Custer's troops (7th Cavalry ?) put up more of a battle than we did, but then they were facing the "ultimate relegation" . It was actually inspired by a comment from Don't Hurt 'Em on the Everton thread. As you say Filthy "He's history" for us at least. On the Mafifa front this one's gonna run and run - I predict a saga of epic proportions, Putin's already on the defensive and I hope a boycott of the next World Cup is given serious consideration - the Olympic's survived it. If England qualify and don't go you can just imagine the fantasy scenarios of deluded English fans al a "Would've Won If we'd Gone", etc, etc.
I'm all for the Feds breaking up the corrupt FIFA. You would think they have bigger fish to fry with the world banking system. Loretta Lynch is pretty cool though. We need Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren to take that particular Moby Dick down, I think. As for the Hammers. Good luck to them in their final season at The old place. Anything is possible now that my Giants are back in first place!
Ahoy There Clueless, the Yanks certainly are front and centre of The War On Bungs ! I wonder if they use brown paper bags in Switzerland, maybe the use empty fondue boxes ? Anyway them nabbing this Mr Blazer seems to have set the whole thing in motion and once he agreed some kind of deal, things really started moving. Go get 'em….
Frank De Boer? Not sure he'd leave Ajax, but I'd be happy
Filthy, I suspect as far as most potential managers go, the question is going to be "How much you got to spend ?" and the answer will or will not be to their liking. I've heard 25 Million mentioned, but I have no idea if that is kosher - if it is, at today's prices I reckon that's 3 or 4 "risky" signings, am I wrong ?
I heard the 25 mil figure as well. That's not bad, and realistically better spent on 3 or 4 players than 1or 2 doozies who don't really want to be there. so who's in charge of recruiting now? No BFS, thank god. The triumvirate? or is there a transfer guru?
I think it's Tiny (AKA Mr Sullivan) that's handling the transfers at the mo' Filthy. I also believe he's been somewhat involved in the past too, but it's hard to figure out which previous purchases were his. Hope his eagerness to be part of the transfer caper isn't too off-putting to potential candidates for our vacancy. I'm also hoping Steve Maclaren is going to Tyneside.
As to transfers I think "they're" trying to get a few in while the going is good before the new guy comes in. Whoever "they" are. So far all we've got is a decent ish 2nd keeper on a free. Anyone else I missed? So they're not going nutso on us -yet. As to the $ total I guess it depends who's on offer for what. Just like everything else.As to who "the new guy " is, I'm getting confused , as is everyone I would imagine. Holding off for a "1st tier" while a "2nd tier" maybe goes somewhere else or is waiting for the space somewhere else if the 1st comes to us and no "3rd tier" if there is still a 1st or 2nd who hasn't decided yet because they haven't decided if they're going to wait and see if a 2nd comes so they can move there. None of you know as yet I'm still waiting for the final confirmation on my % age of edible undies sales as a sweetener in the contract, but it depends if a 2nd will take less. It seems most of the 1sts aren't interested in the undies they're holding out for the peek-a -boo's which are bigger sellers - then I'm up front and center and we're all in trouble , or I'll be brilliant !So everyone clear on that?
Smitty, I had never thought of "New Boots and Panties" applying to West Ham, but it may well might ! On the meddling with transfers - you're right, no serious ins, more of a clearing of the decks - good luck to Danny Potts at Luton and obviously Carlton, wherever he may roam !
NB&Ps apply to everything West ham. One way or t'other. No thoughts on my upcoming appointment? I may not be on anyone's tier but I couldn't be worse than the FF. I don't think they'd be likely to renew anyone who's contract has run out at this time, but we could easily see CFC back next year if no one snaps him up. I think as a coach in some capacity and deffo as a human being. I've said some harsh things about him in the past but if nowt else he could teach a class on not being an idiot about the ups & downs in first class footie.
Carlton definitely proved himself to be a Hammer and I'm sure lots of us would like to see him back in post player mode and as you say, he may well be back as a player. A good man for sure and he may not possess all the skill we desired of him, but he's got heart by the ton.
